Have you ever been in such a rush on a Saturday morning that you forgot to eat breakfast? Perhaps you had so much on your calendar you couldn't even stop to eat lunch. I have found that the meals I enjoy the most are the meals I eat when I am truly hungry.
When we eat with a healthy appetite each food element seems to dazzle our senses. As we feast each taste and smell entices us to eat more and more. Everything tastes fresher, sweeter, and ultimately leaves us feeling full, maybe even too full.
Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” Matthew 5:6 (NIV) It encourages me to know that if we are truly hungry for righteousness we will be filled. It’s a promise!
Here are a few suggestions for how a person can develop a hunger for righteousness.
- Make it your desire. Crave the things of God today.
- Look for God. Search for God all around you today. He is working in your life and in the lives of people you know.
- Try it. “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” Psalm 34:8 (NIV).
Once you have tasted the presence of the Lord you will have a much stronger appetite for it. I can’t get enough of it!
