Another Bold Witness

Today we will take a quick look at one episode in the lives of the apostles. They had been performing many miracles in the name of Jesus, and this had the whole city of Jerusalem as well as the surrounding towns buzzing. Most recently the high priest and all his associates were filled with jealousy and had all the apostles thrown into the public jail. The apostles were miraculously freed during the night by an angel, and they went right back to proclaiming the good news in the temple courts. The next morning the apostles were arrested again and here's what happened.
"Having brought the apostles, they made them appear before the Sanhedrin to be questioned by the high priest. "We gave you strict orders not to teach in this name," he said. "Yet you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and are determined to make us guilty of this man's (Jesus') blood."

Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey God rather than men! The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the dead—whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel. We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him." (Acts 5:27-32)

Today, as an act of worship, join me by praying that God will fill us with a fresh zeal for His renown. May we bear an unmistakable boldness through the Holy Spirit to preach his gospel in the hard places of the world!
