The Gospel and The Great Commission

"'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent?" (Romans 10:13-15 NLT)

If you believe the Bible then you must agree that there is only one way a person can be saved. This may sound elementary to some who wish to move on to the teachings of righteousness (see Hebrews 5:11-14) . However, to me, this passage in Romans is a clear explanation of how the Gospel and the Great Commission are beautifully designed to show God's amazing love and magnify his glorious grace.

Paul begins by quoting the prophet Joel, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.' (Joel 2:32 NIV). That being the case and the only way of salvation he then explains how this happens throughout the world.

In reverse order, believers are sent out to preach the Gospel, people hear the Gospel and believe, and then they call on the name of the Lord to save them. Once that is established they grow in faith and knowledge of the will and Word of God and then repeat the cycle. (see Matthew 28:19-20 and Hebrews 6:1-3)

Today, as an act of worship, join me in praising God for making a way for us to be saved. He chose to use ordinary men and women to share the Gospel with us, and now it is our turn to go and tell. You and I have a unique testimony (how we came to believe in Christ and how he is working in our lives today). Ask the Lord to give you specific opportunities to share it with others today.
