"What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?" (Romans 6:1-2)
This scripture poses some great questions. We must determine how we are going to live our lives even after our new birth in Christ. Christ does not make us into spiritual robots forcing us to reject sin and embrace holiness. We still have the ability to choose to live seeking righteousness or seeking wickedness. What are you choosing?
I do not believe we would ever chose righteousness on our own. It is the work of Christ in us that compels us to flee from sin. So, why do we sin after our new birth? I believe the combination of our old life (the flesh) and the temptation of the enemy and the world are often too enticing. However, as we abide in Christ and He abides in us we are empowered to live a new life.
"So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." (John 8:36)
