God is Faithful

Today, I am beginning a twenty two day trek through 1 Corinthians. I hope you will join me. I am following the One Year Bible reading plan published by Tyndale House Publishers. This is my second year though the Bible and I can honestly say it has impacted my person devotions more than any other devotional system or plan. Even though I am reading through the entire Bible in four distinct sections each day (OT, NT, Psalms, and Proverbs) my devotions here are based on the New Testament readings. If you choose to join me please do not substitute reading this blog or others instead of reading the Bible; they pale in comparison.

Today’s Full Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:1-17

“He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, is faithful.” (1 Corinthians 1:8 NIV)

First of all, it is easy when reading the Bible to read a verse like this and just skip on by never feeling the true weight of the words. I know unless I ask myself a question like, “What does this verse mean?” or “How do these words make a difference in my life today?” I will miss what God is trying to teach me. Even with just a few minutes of meditation on this verse the true meaning surfaces clearly.

God is faithful. When I am unfaithful, he is still faithful. In my darkest moments, he is still faithful. He demonstrates his faithfulness to me by keeping me strong. Even when I fail in living a holy life, he is faithful in that he never abandons me. He uses my weaknesses to display his strength. This unconditional love and faithfulness drives me to my knees with prayers of thanksgiving. I know I can always turn to him.

Today, as an act of worship, meditate on his words. Praise him for his faithfulness. Seek to learn from his perfect example and live a life of faithfulness.
