"For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good." (Titus 2:11-14 NIV)
Sometimes the scriptures whisper and sometimes they shout. When I read that "[God's grace] teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives" (2:12) it rings loud and clear in my mind - "Just say 'NO'!"
Say NO to what? Ungodliness. Worldly passions. Sin.
If you continue reading today's verses you will see that Jesus did not suffer and die on a cross so that we could make light of his sacrifice by wallowing in our detestable ways, but that we might live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives. "[He] gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good." (2:14)
Today, as an act of worship, thank God for his amazing grace (his sacrificial love). Turn from sin today, and live in such a way that Christ is honored and glorified.
"But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace to me was not without effect."
