Consider It Pure Joy

Today's full reading: James 1:1-18

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." (James 1:2-4 NIV)

You may have heard it said, "What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger." It's very possible that there is some truth to that statement. The Bible clearly teaches that the testing of our faith does work out for our good. We learn to persevere. Ultimately, our faith is strengthened through hardship and difficulty.

Today, as an act of worship, embrace the trials you face with a measure of joy and thankfulness. Remember that we have died to ourselves (see Galatians 2:20) when we surrendered our lives to Christ. His will is what we seek.
