I have found that many people are very skeptical of miraculous healings. However, no one can deny that Jesus’ public ministry was literally saturated with miracles many of which were physical healings.
During one account Jesus went in Peter’s house only to find Peter’s “mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever. So He touched her hand, and the fever left her.” (Matthew 8:14-15) Later on that same evening many other sick men and women were brought to him. Of those who were brought to him, the Bible says, “He healed all who were sick.” (Matthew 8:16) Jesus cared deeply for his followers and their families. He demonstrated his sympathy, kindness, and love for human suffering by taking the time comfort them and heal them.
Today, as an act of worship, let’s take our cue from Jesus by easing someone’s suffering. We may not think we can do the miracles that Jesus did, but there are things that we can do to demonstrate compassion, kindness, and love toward those who are sick and hurting all around us. Remember the Bible says, “With God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
Food for thought and comment: What are some specific ways a person can help someone who is physically sick? Have you ever had someone help you when you’ve been sick? What did they do and how did it make you feel?
