Today's full reading: 1 Corinthians 6:1-20
"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body." (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NIV)
I am reminded when I read these verses of the reality of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. Left to myself, I am prone to forget that the presence of God never leaves me; he goes everywhere I go. Not only that, but because I have been purchased by the blood of Jesus, the very presence of the Holy Spirit in my life is the mark of ownership by the King of Kings.
This is an deeply important truth that will serve us well in our daily behavior. I vividly remember days of my young adulthood while away at college when I was invited to various social gatherings. I would often ponder whether or not God would want me to attend. It was this truth that helped me make many wise choices. I can honestly say that remembering this truth has never led me in the wrong direction.
Today, as an act of worship, thank God for dieing on the cross to purchase our forgiveness. Thank him for giving us the seal of ownership: his Holy Spirit. Be mindful of this truth as you make life choices today.
