Sexual Intimacy in Marriage: A Sacred Duty

Today's full reading: 1 Corinthians 7:1-24

"The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband. The wife's body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband. In the same way, the husband's body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife." (1 Corinthians 7:3-4 NIV)

Within the marriage relationship God has designed a beautiful, wholesome, and thrilling way to experience physical intimacy to its fullest capacity. The instructions we read here today remind us of the heart of the experience: giving. We experience godly intimacy with our spouse when we place their needs above our own.

We see the same picture of love through Jesus' sacrificial death on the cross. He placed our need for forgiveness above his earthly life. May we be reminded today to love our spouses with a sacrificial love.

Today, as an act of worship, thank God for your spouse. Praise him for his beautiful design of our sexuality and means of physical intimacy. Pray that God will bless our marriages with open lines of communication that we may be able to know our spouse's needs and sacrificially love them by putting their needs above our own.
