Today's full reading: 1 Corinthians 8:1-13
"Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak." (1 Corinthians 8:9 NIV)
I remember encouraging a brother in Christ in college who was dealing with the issue of whether or not to drink alcohol. We talked about the many issues surrounding this subject and how they related to following Christ, obeying the scriptures, being controlled by the Spirit, and spreading the gospel. These verses, although they are not talking specifically about drinking alcohol, encourage us to be mindful of those who are weaker in their faith. It was this aspect that brought peace to my friend.
Today, as an act of worship, thank God for setting us free from sin and the pagan lifestyle. Ask God for wisdom in exercising your freedom - especially in the areas that some weaker believers may perceive as sinful.
