Today's full reading: Galatians 3:10-22
"Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, "The righteous will live by faith." For if a law had been given that could impart life, then righteousness would certainly have come by the law. But the Scripture declares that the whole world is a prisoner of sin, so that what was promised, being given through faith in Jesus Christ, might be given to those who believe." (Galatians 3:11, 21-22 NIV)
Our only hope is found in Jesus Christ. We all have a sickness - sin. "The whole world is a prisoner of sin". Without Christ we will find ourselves in an endless battle to get our good deeds to outweigh our bad deeds. Unfortunately, this is exactly the sort of thing that millions of people subscribe to everyday, and in all fairness, it does not "sound" like a bad goal to have at first.
The underlying problem with this way of thinking is that without expressing our faith in Jesus Christ to takeaway the punishment for our sins our sin sickness remains, and we will be eternally separated from God. Righteousness does not come by obeying a set of rules (the law); it comes through living by faith in Jesus Christ.
Today, as an act of worship, place your faith fully in Jesus Christ. Praise him for setting us free from sin by taking our punishment. Ask God for a divine appointment to share his love with someone who is lost trying to earn their way to heaven.
Remember, "The righteous will live by faith." (Habakkuk 2:4)
