Tuesday's full reading: 1 Peter 3:8-4:6
"Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin. As a result, he does not live the rest of his earthly life for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God." (1 Peter 4:1-2 NIV)
Suffering physically has a special way of changing our choices and behaviors. Sometimes it takes the sting of the painful consequences of sin in our lives to change our future behaviors. Other times we suffer unjustly not because of the repercussions of our sin, but because of the sins of others. The Word of God confirms this truth by saying that he who has suffered in his body is done with sin (1 Peter 4:1).
Today, as an act of worship, turn away from any willful sins you are living in, and pursue absolute obedience to God's will for your life. Anytime you are tempted to sin remind yourself of the physical suffering that is at stake for you and those you love. And, remind yourself of the sufferings of Christ.
