How to Deal With Temptation?

Temptation is something that every person will inevitably face. It can bring out the best in us or the worst in us. Being tempted is not a sin, but it can easily open the door to sin. My experiences with temptation have taught me that the safest way to avoid sin is to simply run from it. For the most part this works, but there will come a day in each of our lives when we will have to face temptation and make a choice.

Jesus gave us a great example to follow when dealing with temptation. The Bible says that after being led by the Spirit into the desert, and after fasting for forty days and nights, He was tempted by the Devil. God certainly allowed this temptation to take place, just like He will allow you to be tempted.

Jesus’ response to temptation always amazes me. He looked straight into the face of the tempter and spoke the scriptures. He did not sin because He knew the Bible. Our only hope when dealing with temptation is to memorizes passages of the Bible that can be used to silence the tempter when he comes. A great verse to begin with is...

“No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 (NIV)

I pray that you will take this verse to heart, think about it, meditate on it, memorize it, and use it in your time of temptation.
