Today's full reading: 1 Corinthians 3:5-23
"I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow." (1 Corinthians 3:6-7 NIV)
I simply love how Paul puts things in perspective for the churches he planted and ministered too. Undoubtedly, Paul was an important spiritual leader of many infant congregations. They looked to him not only for guidance, but likely thought of him with a certain level of honor; perhaps too much honor. Either way, Paul put things straight when he told them that he was simply a servant of Christ. He, just like Apollos, had a supporting role in the work of the kingdom. He was not the star of the show. That place is reserved only for God himself, who makes things grow.
Today, as an act of worship, praise God for allowing us to join his work. Thank him for the supporting role he offers each of us in his glorious work of bringing salvation to the nations of the earth.
