The Fool Says, "There is No God!" (Psalm 53)

Today's full One Year Bible readings:
Numbers 14:1-15:16 ~ Mark 14:53-72 ~ Psalm 53:1-6 ~ Proverbs 11:4

Psalm 53 is a perhaps a revised version of Psalm 14 and is also heavily quoted by Paul in Romans 3. The significance for the worshiper is the reality that we live in a world filled with sin and rebellion and we need a Savior. Far to often man fails to turn to the LORD for help, forgiveness, compassion, mercy, direction, and purpose; instead he chooses a life of self indulgence.

1 The fool says in his heart,
"There is no God."
They are corrupt, and their ways are vile;
there is no one who does good.

2 God looks down from heaven
on the sons of men
to see if there are any who understand,
any who seek God.

3 Everyone has turned away,
they have together become corrupt;
there is no one who does good,
not even one.

Psalm 53:1-3

I also wrote about this back on January 16, 2009 when we read Psalm 14. I believe it sheds light on this passage as well.

Today, as an act of worship, spend time acknowledging your need for God. He is present and desires that we know Him personally.
