Numbers 11:24-13:33 ~ Mark 14:22-52 ~ Psalm 52:1-9 ~ Proverbs 11:1-3
Psalm 52 was written concerning a most tragic situation in the history of the nation of Israel. Unlike today, where American have witnessed the peaceful transition of power over and over, Israel was experiencing a most unfortunate chapter of history as Saul, the reigning King, grew increasingly jealous of His son-in-law's growing popularity. He was so enraged with jealousy that he sought to kill David by any means. His rage and madness blinded him to the obvious blessings of God. Many innocent people suffered and died as a result. (see 1 Samuel 21:1-7, 22:9-19)
David, however, in the midst of this conflict remained faithful to the LORD and reminds us today to do likewise.
8 But I am like an olive tree
flourishing in the house of God;
I trust in God's unfailing love
for ever and ever.9 I will praise you forever for what you have done;
Psalm 52:8-9
in your name I will hope, for your name is good.
I will praise you in the presence of your saints.
Today, as an act of worship, trust God to supply your every need. Do not give in to the temptation to trust in yourself "for it is God who works in you to will and to act according to His good purpose." (Philippians 2:13)
